The town is surrounded by vineyards and forests and lies on the Ahr, a tributary of the Rhine. Hikers will find a variety of hiking trails through vineyards and forests. Mountain bikers get their money's worth here. The spa town of Bad Neuenahr and the medieval town centre of the wine metropolis of Ahrweiler form a unique combination of wellness and enjoyment. It is currently possible to travel on the Ahr Valley Railway between the Walporzheim district and Remagen on the Rhine. Further expansion of the railway upstream is planned for the coming years. Excursions to the Rhine (e.g. to Bonn and Koblenz) are also possible, as is a city trip to Cologne, around 50 kilometres away.
