This apartment succeeds in being a gem with a southern flair. The owners welcome you to the apartment surrounded by the town walls and the historical centre of the little town of Burkheim by the sunny Kaiserstuhl.

The house is situated on a slope about 150 metres from the vineyards. It also has a big parking area, where you can park your car free of charge. If you have walking difficulties than the owners can provide a parking space right in front of the apartment. The entrance to the apartment is in the courtyard of the property. There is seating right in front of the door, either an armchair or at a bistro table.

The apartment has its own separate entrance and is on the ground floor, without any cumbersome steps. There is just one step up to the bedroom. The apartment is very cool in summer, even without air conditioning, and offers a very pleasant indoor climate. It has a fabulous bedroom with natural stone walls and beautiful furniture made of solid old wood, such as a lovely double bed (180 x 200cm) that can also be separated out into two single beds. The pleasant indirect lighting and the indoor climate will ensure a good night’s sleep. The living room-kitchen provides ample space for two. As in the south, the ceilings are three metres high and so create the impression that you are in Italy. Up to four people can eat at the lovely natural stone counter. On the other side of the room there is a big suite with a sofa that can be folded out as a double bed (175 x 190cm), which children can sleep on. The kitchen provides everything you need, such as a stove, oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle etc. The bathroom is small, but provides a corner shower, a washbasin, a WC, handwash, towels, toilet paper and a hairdryer. There is a little storage room for your luggage and groceries, with a vacuum cleaner, box for empty packaging etc. The apartment, not including the storage room, measures just over 40m².

The apartment is quietly situated in a corner of Burkheim away from noise and roads with traffic. In Burkheim there are still traditional patrols with a night watchman, which start at the town gate, just 30 metres from the apartment. The lovely little medieval town has charming narrow alleys with beautiful timber-framed houses, a little castle, a town gate, many cultural monuments, and delicious wine. It is by the Rhine right by the French border (Alsace) and Switzerland, so you can go on day trips to neighbouring countries. The Europa Park in Rust is also easy to get to, about half an hour away by car. The little town of Burkheim has about 900 inhabitants, so shopping facilities are limited, but there is a bakery and a general shop. The next biggest town is Breisach am Rhein, 10km away, then there is Freiburg im Breisgau, 30km away. It takes about an hour to drive to Switzerland and about five minutes to get to France.

The apartment is suitable for guests with restricted mobility, as it is all at ground level except for just one step. It is not, however, suitable for wheelchair users. The hosts will be happy to assist with any queries and they can also provide e-bike and bicycle hire. A rowing boat and kayak for four are also available. The guest book is brimming with positive entries.
